Users’ pupils do not change when they are in Nine-Tails Chakra Mode; instead, their eyes turn orange. Similar to earlier Jinchriki of the Nine-Tails, Naruto can perceive unpleasant feelings while in this form, presumably irrespective of distance or impediments. While the mode is engaged, he also emits a strong life force that causes White Zetsus to transform into trees when he touches them and for wood constructions to swiftly develop into fully grown trees when he is around.
Naruto’s employment of the Nine-Tails Chakra Mode initially has restrictions because the Nine-Tails won’t cooperate with him, despite the passive powers and upgrades he obtains. He can ultimately generate smaller replicas, although he is unable to use Tailed Beast Balls while in this form. Early usage of this form come with a danger that the Nine-Tails will steal that shelved chakra, culminating in Naruto’s demise because he “shelves” his own chakra in this form and instead draws on the Nine-Tails’. Due to the increased risk, Naruto must be careful with how long he utilizes the form and how many shadow clones he makes. Naruto’s chakra is finally not taken by The Nine-Tails anymore.
Eventually, Kurama Mode, as it is known, is accessible to Naruto. The whisker-like lines on his face thicken to mimic the trigram, and the chakra shroud changes to take on the appearance of a full-length haori, similar to the one Minato typically wears. His pupils also become slit. Kurama Mode is essentially a finished version of Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, which allows Naruto to employ Tailed Beast Balls without undergoing the whole metamorphosis. If necessary, he may partially materialize the head and tails of Kurama. In The Last: Naruto the Movie, Naruto may be shown limiting his Kurama Mode change to just one hand.
In order to better strengthen his senjutsu-based skills, Naruto may combine Sage Mode with his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode in all of its incarnations. His pupils take on a hybrid morphology that combines the horizontal toadslits with the vertical foxslits. When in Kurama Mode, Naruto observes that he can absorb natural energy more swiftly than usual. These skills are further enhanced by the Six Paths Senjutsu and the Six Paths Sage Mode after encountering Hagoromo tsutsuki during the Fourth Shinobi World War.
