Monkey D. Luffy, also known as “Straw Hat Luffy,” is the leader of the Straw Hat Pirates and one of their top fighters. His goal is to find the legendary treasure left behind by Gol D. Roger and become the Pirate King, which he believes will give him the most freedom in the world. Luffy was born in Foosha Village and is the son of Monkey D. Dragon, leader of the Revolutionary Army, and grandson of Marine hero Monkey D. Garp. At age 7, Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which gave him the ability to stretch his body like rubber. He was also gifted a straw hat by Shanks, a promise for them to meet again someday after he became a great pirate.

Luffy has gone up against many powerful forces, including pirates, marines, and even the Four Emperors of the Grand Line, winning most of these battles. He has also either defeated or befriended seven of the eleven known past or present Warlords. Luffy has a reputation for being reckless and insane, causing him to be labeled a “Dangerous Future Element” by the World Government. However, he has also gained a reputation for attracting followers and has become the leader of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet.

Luffy’s bounty has increased significantly throughout his life of piracy, reflecting his accomplishments. After defeating Crocodile in Arabasta, his bounty increased to 100,000,000. After his crew’s invasion into and escape from Enies Lobby, his bounty was increased to 300,000,000. His bounty continued to increase as he challenged the Emperors directly and became a member of the Four Emperors after defeating Kaidou during the Raid on Onigashima. His current bounty is 3,000,000,000.
