He demanded a nichirin katana from a young girl right after the Final Selection and showed no willingness to cooperate with others. He also had little interest in other people, as seen when he grabbed Kanata Ubuyashiki by the hair. He tended to use foul language and had a “lone wolf” personality, preferring to work alone and not accept help from others. Genya felt insecure growing up because his older brother Sanemi refused to acknowledge him.
Later in the manga, during the fight against Hantengu, an Upper Moon Demon, Genya became more open to working with others. He teamed up with Tanjiro Kamado, Mitsuri Kanroji, and Nezuko Kamado. Over time, he learned to be more sociable and less ill-mannered towards others, particularly Tanjiro and his friends. Sanemi’s rejection also made him feel self-conscious as he recognized his weakness compared to his comrades. Despite being severely injured, he did everything he could to help his allies. He didn’t hold any ill-will towards his brother, and this was reinforced by Tanjiro and eventually Sanemi himself.
