Also known as “Straw Hat Luffy” or simply “Straw Hat,” is the respected leader and captain of the notorious Straw Hat Pirates, who are gaining fame and power in the world of pirates. He is acknowledged as the most formidable fighter within his crew. Luffy’s ultimate ambition is to uncover the legendary treasure left behind by Gol D. Roger, the late Pirate King, and thereby claim the title of the Pirate King for himself. This aspiration stems from a mysterious dream that he has only shared with his close confidants: Shanks, his brothers, and his crew. For Luffy, becoming the Pirate King symbolizes the pinnacle of freedom in the world.

Luffy hails from Foosha Village and is the son of Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army, and the grandson of the esteemed Marine hero, Monkey D. Garp. His family carries the “D” initial and the Will of D. At a young age of 7, Luffy accidentally consumed the Gomu Gomu no Mi, a Devil Fruit that granted him the ability to stretch his body like rubber. Additionally, the iconic straw hat that Luffy wears was a gift from Shanks, who promised to meet him again once he became a great pirate.

Raised in Dawn Island under Curly Dadan’s care, Luffy formed strong bonds with “Fire Fist” Portgas D. Ace and Revolutionary Chief-of-Staff Sabo, considering them his sworn brothers.

Throughout his journey, Luffy has faced formidable adversaries, including powerful pirates in the East Blue, the Marines, the Seven Warlords of the Sea, Cipher Pol, World Nobles, and even the Four Emperors of the Grand Line. Despite the challenges, he has emerged victorious in most of these encounters. He was instrumental in the destruction of Enies Lobby, managed to escape from the seemingly impenetrable Impel Down, and played a crucial role in the Summit War of Marineford. He has also confronted and either defeated or formed alliances with seven of the eleven known Warlords prior to the organization’s disbandment. His daring feats and prestigious lineage have earned him the reputation of a “Dangerous Future Element” and led to him being labeled as “reckless” and sometimes “insane” by Fleet Admiral Sakazuki, the Marine Headquarters, and the World Government.

Luffy possesses a unique ability to attract followers, and reluctantly, he has become the leader of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, consisting of seven pirate crews who have pledged to come to his aid whenever he calls for them. His exploits against the Big Mom Pirates have led to him being dubbed the “Fifth Emperor of the Sea” by the media, although many prominent figures initially regarded this title as exaggerated. However, after defeating Kaidou during the Raid on Onigashima, Luffy was officially recognized by the World Government as one of the Four Emperors, alongside Buggy, having replaced Kaidou and Big Mom.
