Madara was born during a time of conflict known as the Warring States Period. He was the eldest child among Tajima Uchiha’s five kids. Madara and his siblings grew up in constant warfare against their rivals, the Senju clan. Three of his siblings died young, leaving him with only his younger brother, Izuna. Madara and Izuna formed a strong bond due to their shared loss and constantly tried to outdo each other in becoming stronger. This, along with his naturally powerful chakra, allowed the young Madara to achieve victories against older Senju warriors, earning a reputation as a prodigy.

During rare moments of rest, Madara befriended a boy named Hashirama who was the same age. They developed a friendly rivalry, engaging in activities like skipping stones and playing by rivers. Hashirama had also lost his brothers in battle, and they both dreamed of a world where children like them wouldn’t have to fight. Despite not revealing their family names, they eventually discovered each other’s true identities: Madara was an Uchiha, and Hashirama was a Senju. Despite their friendship, they felt obligated to fight each other due to their clan loyalties. Faced with choosing between his family and his dreams of peace, Madara decided to sever his friendship with Hashirama to eliminate any hesitation in killing him in the future. This determination triggered the awakening of his Sharingan.

Over the years, Madara and Hashirama continued to face each other in battles. Despite obtaining a Mangekyō Sharingan, Madara couldn’t defeat Hashirama. Similarly, Hashirama couldn’t bring himself to kill Madara, leading to a prolonged stalemate. Eventually, both Madara and Hashirama became leaders of their respective clans. Hashirama attempted to use his position to broker peace, but Madara declined due to the death of his brother at the hands of Hashirama’s sibling. Some Uchiha members defected to the Senju for safety. Madara used his brother Izuna’s eyes to gain an “eternal” Mangekyō Sharingan, which helped him launch a final attack against the Senju. However, he was defeated. Instead of killing Madara, Hashirama offered to sacrifice himself for peace, which touched Madara and led him to accept peace.

As a result, the Senju and Uchiha clans, along with their affiliated families, came together to establish a village focused on peace. Madara and Hashirama rekindled their friendship and named the village Konohagakure, symbolized by leaves. However, their visions of peace differed. Hashirama believed in cooperation among the newly formed villages, while Madara sought control to ensure lasting peace, even resorting to attacking leaders of other villages. When Hashirama became the Hokage, the leader of Konoha, Madara became concerned about the Uchiha’s future, fearing the Senju’s dominance was just beginning.
