First and foremost, shonen anime is a subgenre of anime aimed at young guys. Usually, the main character is a man with muscles, good martial arts skills, and the capacity to increase strength. Son Goku from Dragon Ball, Natsu Dragneel from Fairy Tail, and Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece are examples of this type of character. Their appreciation for their friends and desire to battle for them is a prominent character feature for these characters. Luffy’s brother, Ace, had been kidnapped by the Marines in One Piece, for example. Luffy had broken into the Marine jail Impel Down in order to save him, and had launched a huge assault on Marineford, the Marines’ headquarters.
