Character info

After the battle, Tanjiro was able to hold his own against Daki, an Upper Rank demon who had lived for over a century and had eaten 7 Hashira during her lifetime. Although it was suggested that she was toying with him, even when she regained her full strength in the middle of the battle, an enraged Tanjiro easily overpowered her and came close to slicing off her neck. However, he had run out of stamina and nearly died before he could behead her. Despite his injuries, Tanjiro was able to help Tengen Uzui, who had been poisoned by Gyutaro, the true Upper Rank Six, and later outsmarted and decapitated him while briefly awakening the Demon Slayer Mark. This made Tanjiro one of the first Demon Slayers to ever kill an Upper Rank, a feat that had not been accomplished for a century. According to Mitsuri Kanroji, surviving a battle against an Upper Rank demon was equivalent to 5 to 10 years of intensive training.

After receiving intensive training in the Swordsmith Village, Tanjiro’s swordsmanship skills greatly improved, and he developed the ability to “smell the future,” giving him movements and reflexes comparable to those of the Hashira. He faced Upper Rank Four, Hantengu, and his clones, fending off Urogi and deducing their abilities. Sekido noted that Tanjiro underwent explosive growth in the midst of battle, especially under critical moments. After awakening his Demon Slayer Mark for the second time, along with the Bright Red Nichirin Sword, Tanjiro was able to blitz three of Hantengu’s clones simultaneously. With the help of Genya Shinazugawa and Nezuko, he managed to hold his own against Zohakuten, the combined form of all four of Hantengu’s clones. Finally, with the help of a marked Mitsuri Kanroji, Tanjiro, Genya, and Nezuko chased down the main body and successfully defeated him, with Tanjiro dealing the final blow.

The Hinokami Kagura is a breathing style that is passed down from father to son within the Kamado family alongside the Hanafuda earrings. This breathing style is used in a ritual ceremony every new year to offer a dance to the Fire God to protect against threats and diseases. The dance consists of twelve segments that are repeated until sunrise. Tanjiro Kamado is the current user of this style, having learned it from his father.

Later, Shinjuro Rengoku reveals that the Hinokami Kagura is actually the legendary Sun Breathing style, which was the first breathing style created by Yoriichi Tsugikuni. All other breathing styles were derived from it as Yoriichi modified it to suit his students who were unable to use it. Both the Hinokami Kagura and Sun Breathing mimic the sun’s movements and abilities, making them extremely versatile and effective against demons. Tanjiro notes that using the Sun Breathing style increases his power and speed compared to using the Water Breathing style.

Tanjiro realizes that the Hinokami Kagura has unnecessary movements, such as different wrist angles, footwork, and breathing rhythm, compared to the Sun Breathing performed by Yoriichi. By removing these unnecessary movements, he is able to use the breathing style in its purest form.
