Black Zetsu created the original idea for Akatsuki as part of its scheme to resurrect its mother, but it pretended Madara Uchiha had come up with it in order to fool him into believing it was a manifestation of his will. Akatsuki was initially created by Yahiko during the Third Shinobi World War along with his childhood friends Nagato and Konan. The three founded Akatsuki as a means of bringing peace to their native Amegakure as residents who had been left orphaned by the Second Shinobi World War. the three were eventually approached by Tobi, who introduced himself as Madara Uchiha. Tobi claimed Nagato was the reincarnation of the Sage of Six Paths and offered to teach him to control the power of his Rinnegan, though Yahiko distrusted him and caused Nagato to decline his offer. However, Tobi would later claim that it was he who encouraged Yahiko to form the Five Great Shinobi Countries.
With the help of other Ame ninja who shared Akatsuki’s objective to put a stop to war, knowledge of their exploits eventually spread beyond of Amegakure. Yahiko’s charismatic leadership, which kept the group together and inspired them to persist despite the challenges they faced, is primarily responsible for Akatsuki’s early prominence. However, Yahiko thought of himself as just a conduit for Nagato, who would ultimately be the real architect of world peace thanks to his Rinnegan
Hanz, the leader of Ame, was also made aware of the Akatsuki and saw them as a danger to his authority, a viewpoint endorsed by Danz Shimura in the anime. Hanz went up to Akatsuki and offered to assist them in mediating a settlement between Konohagakure, Iwagakure, and Sunagakure. However, Hanz’s men and members of Danz’s Root attacked Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan as they went to meet him. They kidnapped Konan captive and forced Yahiko to commit suicide in order to save her. Yahiko’s murder infuriated Nagato, who used the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path to kill their assailants but managed to flee himself.
In the anime, Hanz’s whereabouts were revealed to the other Akatsuki members.
The tailed creatures increasingly emerge from obscurity as a result of Akatsuki’s objective to capture them, which in turn leads to an increase in the hidden settlements’ resistance. Sasori is slain in combat with the Suna and Konoha soldiers dispatched to retrieve the One-jinchriki Tail’s after Deidara captures the animal. Obito sees this as an opportunity to join Akatsuki as “Tobi” and assist in the capture of the Three-Tails. Hidan and Kakuzu manage to acquire the Two-Tails around the same time, but both lose to Konoha’s Nij Shtai in separate encounters. Deidara and Itachi both pass away in conflict with Sasuke Uchiha when Kisame Hoshigaki subsequently inherits the Four-Tails.
